Editing your site’s menus
Reorder the main menu, make dropdowns, and set your footer and social links.
Every link a visitor clicks in your header and footer is set on the Pages screen, under the Navigation tab beside Pages and Templates. There are three menus — Main menu, Footer and Social — and you switch between them with the buttons at the top of the tab.
The main menu is a list you can rearrange. Drag a row by its handle to change the order, or drag it a little to the right and drop it on another row to tuck it underneath — that is how you make a dropdown. A dropdown is one level deep; an item that already has links under it cannot itself be tucked under something else. On a phone, press and hold the handle for a moment before dragging (a quick swipe scrolls the page instead), or use the ⋯ menu on a row and pick Move up or Move down. With a keyboard: tab to the handle, press space to pick a row up, move it with the arrow keys, and press space again to drop it.
Press Add item to add a link. Point it at a page you have already made — search for it by name — or type an address by hand. A link to another website can open in a new tab.
Pointing a link at a page is worth doing: if that page later moves to a different address, the menu follows it. A link to a typed-out address stays exactly as you typed it.
Rename a link by typing over its text; the page itself keeps its own title.
The ⋯ menu on each row also has Edit link, Add child and Remove.
The footer is organised into columns — a heading with a short list of links under it. Add a column, name it, then add links to it the same way. Social links are a platform name and a web address; the matching logo appears automatically for the well-known ones.
Nothing goes live the moment you save. Saving puts your menus on staging, where you can check them with Preview staging in the top corner of the screen. When they look right, take them live the same way you take everything else live: How do I put my site live?.
